Nice-based transport and logistics group Transcan has installed an ultra-fast electric charging station from specialist Chargepoly at its warehouse in the Parc d'Activité Logistique (PAL) in Nice Saint-Isidore. Thanks to this station and the acquisition of two electric trucks, Transcan's deliveries in the heart of the city will be 100% carbon-free.
Transcan goes electric. After converting part of its fleet to B100 biofuel, the regional group, which has specialized in transport and logistics since 2001, is strengthening its CSR ambitions by choosing electric power for its trucks. The Nice-based company, which has almost 100,000 m2 of logistics space in the region, spread over 18 buildings, has just finalized the acquisition of eight masters and two 16-ton electric rigids from Renault Trucks. To supply these two Renault Trucks rigids, Transcan has turned to another French player: Chargepoly, a specialist in electric recharging solutions for truck fleets. The group has just completed the installation of a station at its 6,000 m2 warehouse in the Parc d’Activité Logistique in Nice Saint-Isidore. The station features 3 terminals delivering an installed electrical power of 150kW, enabling the 16 tons to be recharged from 20% to 80% in 1h15. The station was installed in early December, in just two weeks, during the peak holiday season. It will go into operation in the next few days, once the two electric vehicles have been delivered.
Cleaner trucks in downtown Nice
Thanks to these two acquisitions – the station and the electric rigids – the logistics provider will be able to totally offer carbon-free deliveries in Nice city center via its subsidiary Transcan Eco City, which specializes in last-mile logistics. To carry out these deliveries, Transcan Eco City receives goods from other logistics and transport companies, which it automatically consolidates and sorts at its PAL warehouse. Around 10,000 parcels pass through this hub every day. From there, Transcan Eco City consolidates and pools goods by destination, then routes them via low-carbon vehicles (electric carriers) to inter-city hubs strategically positioned in the hypercenters of Nice and Cannes, where the last few meters are covered by electrically assisted cargo bikes. Thanks to this intelligent massification of flows, it now only takes a few forwarders, electric masters, and electrically assisted cargo bikes to supply the same delivery point, whereas before it took dozens of diesel trucks on the road. The acquisition of the Chargepoly station and forwarders reinforces Transcan’s strategy of eco-responsible pooling, enabling it to make 100% electric deliveries in the heart of the city.
