Chargepoly, the specialist in ultra-fast recharging solutions for heavy goods vehicles, has signed a contract with the family-owned Ile-de-France transport company Transports Prévost. The agreement calls for the installation of an electric charging station at the company's head office in Mitry-Mory (77), to be powered by photovoltaic panels by 2025.
To meet the challenges of climate change, Transports Prévost is betting on the energy mix. 80% of its fleet, mainly heavy goods vehicles, is now decarbonized thanks to alternative energies to diesel. By the end of this year, the family business is aiming for 90%. This mix is made up of 60% B100 biofuel, 30% BioGNV and, more recently, electric power, with the acquisition of the first vehicles last year. “We currently have three tractors and a 19-tonne forwarder. We’re expecting five vehicles, which will bring our fleet up to around ten electric trucks by the end of 2024,” points out Aurélie Jami, Groupe Prévost’s administrative director.
Large-scale electrification of the Mitry-Mory site
To take electrification a step further and anticipate the future needs of its customers – players in the automotive, industrial, pharmaceutical and luxury sectors – Transports Prévost has signed an order with specialist Chargepoly for an ultra-fast electric charging station. Scheduled to be operational next month, the station will be deployed at the company’s headquarters in Mitry-Mory (Seine-et-Marne). The station features an installed capacity of 400kW (Power Unit), intelligently distributed over 10 charging satellites (User Unit). This infrastructure will enable a truck to be fully recharged in just over 1h30. Once recharged, the trucks will operate within a 300 km radius of the Paris region. In addition to supplying the recharging solution, Chargepoly assisted Transports Prévost in the design phase of the station: dimensioning according to the route plan and truck characteristics, connection to the site, study of the turning radius…
The Made in France choice
After an in-depth study of the market, Transports Prévost finally turned to the Aix-en-Provence start-up. Among the arguments that weighed in the balance: Made in France and shared values. “There are a lot of installer-distributors in the charging station market. The fact that Chargepoly manufactures its solution in France is a sign of confidence for us. It’s also in line with our values of favoring short circuits,” explains Alain Huguen, head of purchasing, overheads, and safety, who oversees deploying the IRVE (Infrastructure de Recharge de Véhicule Électrique – Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure) at Transports Prévost.
Comprehensive management software
Another asset for the engineering company is its software. It enables vehicles to be recharged intelligently, by priority, according to the customer routes to be carried out and the most advantageous charging times. “Once we’ve installed Chargepoly’s software, we’ll soon be able to run double shifts: going out on our rounds in the morning, recharging at lunchtime and delivering again in the afternoon. This means we’ll be able to recoup the cost of our electric vehicles more quickly,” explains Aurélie Jami, Administrative Director at Groupe Prévost.
Towards energy self-consumption and even more affordable electricity
With a view to self-consumption, in 2025 Transports Prévost will install a solar power plant on the 2,000 m2 roof of its technical workshops located 30 meters from the Chargepoly station.The photovoltaic panels will supply electricity to the station and to the entire infrastructure of the company’s head office, creating a virtuous circle in both environmental and economic terms.
