Barbero Transports speeds up electrification with Chargepoly

To boost its competitiveness and support its ongoing CSR initiative, Barbero Transports has installed 4 ultra-fast electric charging stations from Chargepoly at its headquarters in Saint-Laurent-du-Var (06).

When it comes to greening its transport business, no more traffic restrictions: Barbero puts its foot to the floor! The Laurentine company, which specializes in refrigerated and industrial transport, is making the transition to a greener future with the aim of satisfying its customers and winning new markets. In 2020, Barbero inaugurated a new 32,000 m2 refrigerated logistics platform at its headquarters in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, in the Alpes-Maritimes region of France, equipped with a solar farm enabling the company to self-consume energy on site. The carrier has also converted its fleet to green energy. Today, 80% of its tractors and 70% of its forwarders run on B100 biofuel, with nitrogen-powered refrigeration units. As part of this continuous improvement approach, Barbero has also invested in 4 100% electric rigids equipped with cryogenic refrigeration units (two 16-ton and two 26-ton) – a world first in the transport sector – and in the installation of an ultra-fast recharging station. For the latter, Barbero chose Chargepoly. A strategic choice for the three-generation family business, it came naturally on the recommendation of one of its manufacturing partners, a famous automotive brand with a diamond-shaped logo.

An installed capacity of 300 kW

Always on the lookout for the latest innovations on the market, Barbero Transport was the first to put its trust in Chargepoly’s intelligent recharging technology. Operational since last September, the electric station has an installed power of 300kW, which can be distributed dynamically to the 4 charging stations powering Barbero’s 4 new trucks. At the end of each day, Barbero recharges the vehicles with meticulous organization. As soon as they arrive at 9pm, the site’s fleet manager checks and charges the carriers. The station intelligently distributes energy to ensure that, from 6 a.m. onwards, each driver can take possession of his or her carrier for a first round of deliveries to supermarkets, fresh produce stores and private customers. At lunchtime, the carriers return to the logistics platform for a quick 30-minute recharge, to gain around 20% autonomy, before setting off again in the afternoon to deliver industrial freight. The 4 charging stations can simultaneously recharge two rigids from 20% to 100% in 2 hours.

A conclusive experience

Just over six months after the installation of the station, the Chargepoly experience is conclusive. There have been no incidents of note,” notes Anthony Rocquencourt, training, and safety manager at Barbero Transport. The charging stations are reliable and operational, enabling us to provide full customer satisfaction with 100% carbon-free vehicles that emit no noise in the city center, for the greater comfort of residents and our drivers”. The manager also emphasizes the quality of the support provided throughout the project: “The Chargepoly teams were involved and present alongside us at every stage of the installation”. This positive feedback encourages Transports Barbero to continue in this direction. In May, the company will be testing its first electric tractor, with a view to carrying out regional and national deliveries over longer distances. This expansion of its electric fleet will require the installation of new Chargepoly charging stations.
